$3,991.24. It must be remembered that the bath-houses were

given rent free for two months, and the temporary hospital

for the entire time of the experiment.

I have the honour to attach the report of

a Meeting with the Sanitary Board on the 25th. instant which

incident closed the experiment. It has demonstrated that the

danger of contagion is exaggerated, and that the Chinese,

like other people can be induced to co-operate in Sanitary

measures if they are approached in a proper spirit.
